kusama pyjamas

Submit   gender + art If blogs were mullets, this would be the party at the back where I aggregate anything to do with gender in arts and popular culture. mainly queer & feminist art, a smidge of personal favorite artists, the occasional related docos and news. For the business at the front of sharing art that might interest queer, feminist, womanist, genderqueer, transgender, whoever creatives: please click on the pink above.

Titled for Yayoi Kusama, who is the cat's pyjamas.

i hang out with transwomen who make great art. but its hard to track em down these days becuz most of em are fucking dead. oh there are a few making some kind of art. but some of the most hilarious and brilliant shit is on AIDS zines and punk cds that are out of print, becuz those who made it are no longer here to promote it. who led the fight against AIDS for the past 20- years? lesbians. who are at the top of the AIDS demographic? transwomen. so who is fighting hardest for transwomen? lesbians. self appointed! codependents! let the trannies fend for themselves!

via Trans Spotting, by Lynnee Breedlove | Queer Zine Lit Breedlove’s manifesto on being criticized as a “self appointed” leader on trans issues, despite trans issues being Breedloves own life and part of being the really visible singer in Tribe 8 anyway.

Rise Above: A Tribe 8 Documentary (via toesandumbrellas)

I can’t watch this trailer for Rise Above without smiling. Especially the dudes at the end saying they were scared of the dyke band. Very loud and NSFW, btw.
